Mark 4
The Parable of the Growing Seed
26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head.29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
I found this particular parable to be interesting because it suggests that the soil (or the kingdom) does not need to be tended to, rather it just needs seeds to be scattered. Further it indicates that the kingdom of God grows gradually, although perhaps unnoticed by the planter. But when the seed is fully grown, then will others take notice.
This parable made me realize that even when we are in our small level positions, particularly at our workplaces, that while we might go unnoticed, eventually the harvest will come. Eventually our small tasks will be recognized. Eventually our work product and performance will be rewarded. Eventually whatever skills we have acquired will matter at the right time.
So, whatever you're doing well, keep doing it. A harvest is on the horizon. Just don't neglect to plant the seed, in good soil, so that it can grow.
