I am sitting under a gazebo at a women's spiritual retreat out in the wilderness. Nature is all around. I can hear the birds chirping and the bees buzzing very clearly. It's peaceful and pleasant. But when the night falls, I will be most uncomfortable. I will be in the middle of a dark wilderness. I am not a fan of the dark!
Here's the thing, a dark wilderness does not have to be literal. A dark wilderness can me emotional, spiritual, or even physical conditions of our minds, our hearts, and our bodies. But when we are in Christ Jesus, we are to be the lamps that bear witness to the light - just like John the Baptist was. He asked that he, himself, decrease so that the real LIGHT, the Son of God, could increase. As representations of that light, we are to shine in darkness...even in the wilderness moments and seasons of our lives so that we can teach others how to be a light in order for God to be glorified.
John 1:6-8
There was a man sent from God, whose name wash John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light that through him might believe. He was not the light, but was sent to bear witness of the Light.
