Both Jacob and Fitz married women that they didn't really love, couldn't really love, and actually never tried to love. These women worshipped the ground they walked on and gave them children, but still...no reciprocity. These men both longed to be with the one woman they each truly loved and were willing to do anything to get her little by little.
You see, Jacob wasn't always honorable, but he was restored in God's eyes. By the end of the tale, we see Jacob's redemption story result in bountiful blessings. His name even changed from Jacob (the trickster, the supplanter) to Israel, which means "prince with God".
We're still waiting on Fitz's redeeming qualities to show up. Oh, but Jacob's story is real. Fitz's is make believe...but somehow we are still fascinated. In the words of Joel Osteen, "He's not just the God of perfect people; he's also the God of imperfect people". And for that, we should all be grateful - well, I am.
