ACE #201: Honoring Our Earthly Mothers

“Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, ‘Dear woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on, this disciple took her into his home” (John 19:25-27).

In this particular passage, we see that Mary, the mother of Jesus, is witnessing the crucifixion of her son.  But it is Jesus who does something so profound out of love for His mother.  He ensures her provision by uniting Mary with John, the disciple he loved so much, and then John with Mary.  Even as He was dying, Jesus honored his mother by making sure that she was taken care of until her own death.  What an awesome representation of the bond and love shared between a mother and child.

Take the time to honor the "mothers" in your life...in whatever shape or form they represent.
